Golden Corn Bread
Grandma Pillsbury used to make this on Saturday nights and serve it with beans and hot dogs.
My favorite piece was always the particularly moist center piece.
Yield: 1 8 " square pan
Oven temperature: 425 degrees F.
Description: yummy; moist and dense
Suggestions: dont over bake.
First baked: ...don't really know...sometime when I was a child.

3/4 c. yellow cornmeal |
3/4 tsp. table salt |
1 c. all purpose flour |
1 c. milk |
1/3 c. sugar |
1 egg, well beaten |
2 tsp. baking powder |
2 Tbs. shortening - either liquid or melted |
Directions:
Mix and sift dry ingredients.
Add liquids.
Stir together till thoroughly mixed.
Bake in shallow, greased pan for 20 minutes.
Note: for shortening you can use oil, butter, chicken fat, or beef drippings. I prefer to use corn oil.
